Catherine's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The focus of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
