Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
