New Year's Partygoers Told to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK
Weather experts are saying an icy beginning to the new year, with snowfall anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Those celebrating are being urged to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Celebrations Continue Despite Warnings
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay festivities are expected to proceed, unlike last year's postponement. This is in spite of weather alerts for snow over northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so warmer clothes will be essential," said the national forecaster.
Displays Under Clear but Chilly Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be suited to fireworks displays, with dry conditions and good visibility. Readings are expected to be chilly, meaning extra layers a necessity, as per forecasters.
Further north, skies will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to affect visibility for watching fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Extensive Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, advisories are in place for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and most of the south-east of England.

- The public have been urged to allow extra time for journeys on the road.
- Disruptions and cancellations are expected on the transport network.
The Mercury Forecast to Fall Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are forecast to fall even more as snow and gale-force winds are expected to batter the north of the country.
Around 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Warnings Issued
At the same time, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to continue until noon on 5 January, with the mercury likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities stated this meant the weather was expected to lead to notable consequences across health and social care services. This includes a potential rise in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those aged 65 or over.
The message for all is clear: to welcome the new year in safely, wrapping up warm is absolutely essential.
